UPDATE 2017
********************
A fan song to support worldbuilding and encourage the production of the #NOTW series as video game, movie series and tv show simultaneously at Lions Gate Films + grow awareness of the Lute Family (in contradistinction to the lesser #MandoFamily and most especially the heretical 23 fret octave-mandolin knock off of the proper 24 fret traditional Irish bouzouki #TroupersLute

>>it's basically TAIGS vs CREAMBUNS<<

RAISE AWARENESS of the Disabled Lute Instrument Family & Lutists like me

NB: (especially the 4 course [8 String] "#KvotheStyleLUTE" Irish Roundback Bouzouki, the 7 string "#IllienStyleLUTE" and of course the 15 string roundback "#CourtStyleLUTE"

Support the artistic integrity of the cross-platform simultaneous production and rally support for the integrity of the work of Patrick Rothfuss and Lin-Manuel Miranda from pre-production through development.

JUST ENTER: 0 to get the track free. If you sign up to the email list you will also get all future developments and clips from the rehearsals on all four types of 8 string lutes i play as well as my 15 string medievael round back. The uilleann pipes are mixed high in this mix as i was uncertain of their placement. I was playing on a borrowed chanter from Greg Schnieder Founder of BCUPS for a year and a half before my gorgeous Cilian O'Briain was finally sold back to me by a "wandering minstrel" shall we say, for every penny I had minus kindly enough to get food and djarums that day. ;) Thanks dude. I honestly couldn't have given the guy enough. A year and a month after the infamous April 1st theft from Johnnie Fox's Irish Snug in Vancouver, thieves on camera, on youtube and the cops knowing them and saying if they'd do nothing unless I sued the VPD in court for not pursuing the crime. (apparently de riguer according to two lawyer buddies and the PI i spent the two thousand of the dollars donated to me on.) I am eternally lucky and grateful for their return. The track on this same bandcamp fundraising for that cause is also now free. Thank my lucky stars, and Tehlu Be Praised #Shai'Hulud=Amyr *mypersonalabsurdtheorytoaddtothesillinessouttherealready

Now that a champion uilleann piper from ireland playing a full O'Briain (read: #StradivariusLike) set he may re-do my hack job on the loaner as my now reeded O'Briain is still as yet disabled and not up to studio quality tone...yet #whereISPaddyOHare? lol

I rewrote the lyrics to the old Irish poem Dark Haired Miriam Ran Away, to go along with the traditional uilleann pipe melody of Dawn of the Day -- first thing Tim Fanning (the retired cop and spokesperson of the VPD) taught me in one the very few lessons he gave me before I moved to Ireland in May 2005 after grad school at VST/UBC. Fused with some of Patrick Kavanagh's lyrical adaptations known as the famously popular "Raglan Road", as they were aesthetically appropriate to the love tale between Kvothe and you know who in The Name of the Wind.
********************
This is our contribution as mega fans of my favourite novel ever, The Name of the Wind, KINGKILLER CHRONICLE by Patrick Rothfuss, to the corpus of songs posted so far by other fans likewise uncontrollably inspired.

This is still a work in progress but it's at the point of sharing. So, download FREE and let us know what you think.

As a player of the 8 string irish lute (closest earthly resemblance to Kvothe's and uilleann pipes in a full time celtic for over a decade, I really wanted to show the musical tradition can be incorporated to inform music inspired by Rothfuss' world.

So, rather than make up some melody and hope you like it, in true minstrel fashion I have adapted one of my favourite, very old uilleann pipe melody from Ireland "The Dawning of the Day" -- one of the first melodies taught beginners -- as my starting point. Changes to the chord structure and melody then grew naturally from the process in studio.

Now, the Irish poem "Dark Haired Miriam Ran Away" was then set to "Dawning of the Day" or, Fáinne Geal an Lae in Irish (Gaelic), by Luke Kelly of the Dubliners and after some lyric changes of the original Kavanagh poem we were left with the now legendary Irish song, "Raglan Road" or "On Raglan Road."

From the melody to the words of the great poet Patrick Kavanagh and the absolutely epic Luke Kelly, I cannot imagine a better musical pedigree to draw from that would likewise do Rothfuss' Kingkiller world justice.

With the breaking news of Lin-Manuel Miranda to produce and organize the film and tv adaptations of Rothfuss' here in my hometown of Vancouver no less, perhaps this is a fitting tribute or invitation from us fans to let Rothfuss and Miranda how stoked we all are that our most beloved book ever is going to get the treatment it deserves.

Please enjoy, send feedback and share!

I am still hoping to get some other musicians involved to make more fan music in the future.

IF ANYONE wants to do some art for a cover, that'd be cool. I just have a random pic of me and my instrument from Johnnie Fox's Irish Snug in Vancouver where I continue to host a Sunday and Wednesday Irish trad session and sing song for the past 8 years now since returning from Ireland and incomplete doctoral studies. :)

Damanta is the Irish word for AWESOME. I know, I know.
That's not true. But it is. You just haven't spoken with enough old, old people in rural Ireland. But that is really how it was once used.
